The 2024 ASEAN Quantity Surveyors Association (AQSA) Research and Education Conference was successfully held in Kuching Sarawak, Malaysia, attended by 650 participants from various countries in ASEAN.

This event, which will take place on 19-20 November 2024, will bring together experts and industry leaders from various ASEAN countries to discuss innovation, collaboration and challenges in the field of quantity surveying and infrastructure development.

Habibie Razak, Executive Director of the The Institution of Engineers Indonesia (PII) was also present at the Conference. On this occasion, Habibie was the main speaker with the theme “Ideas and strategies to the enhancement of Indonesia's sustainability in the Infrastructure Development”..

In his presentation, Habibie highlighted the importance of integrating digital technology and a sustainability-based approach to support infrastructure development in the ASEAN region.

"Cross-border collaboration and the use of technology such as BIM (Building Information Modeling) is the key to creating more efficient and environmentally friendly construction projects," said Habibie Razak.

This event is also a strategic platform for ASEAN member countries to share best practices and promote education in the field of quantity surveying. With more than 650 attendees, the conference included panel discussions, research presentations, and workshops focused on issues such as construction cost efficiency, risk management, and environmentally friendly materials innovation.

In the discussion session, Habibie Razak also proposed establishing a joint research network between universities in ASEAN to encourage applied research in the construction sector. This proposal received a positive response from delegations from other countries, who agreed on the importance of academic collaboration as a foundation for industrial progress.

This conference is expected to be able to strengthen relations between quantity surveying professionals in ASEAN while simultaneously advancing a more sustainable construction sector in the future. Furthermore, AQSA plans to continue expanding the scope of this conference by inviting participation from global partners in the next edition.
