The Institution of Engineers Indonesia (PII) operates and carries out its functions based on the legal basis that regulates the engineering profession in Indonesia. This legal foundation provides a clear framework for standards, regulations, and policies related to engineering practices. PII is committed to complying with and implementing applicable legal provisions to ensure that engineering practices and activities meet the established professional and ethical standards.

Currently, the main legal basis underlying the operations and regulations of the engineering profession is: "Engineering Law No. 25 of 2019"

This law regulates various aspects related to the engineering profession in Indonesia, including regulations regarding certification, competency standards, and responsibilities of engineers. The Engineering Law aims to improve the quality and professionalism of engineers, protect the public interest, and support the sustainable development of infrastructure and technology in Indonesia. With this law, PII is expected to be able to carry out its role effectively in developing the competencies of its members and ensuring that engineering practices meet the legal and ethical standards set.
