Reindustrialization as the spirit of the Pancasila Birthday : the "Perspective of Engineers in answering the economic challenges and independence of the nation"

By: Ir. Panji Sukma Nugraha, S.T., M.M., HDI,

Deputy Secretary General of the Indonesian Engineer Association

every June 1, we remember the Pancasila magic day. But in the midst of the onslaught of the challenges of the times, global geopolitics, massive industrial layoffs, and crisis of import dependence. Maybe it's time for us to ask again: Where is the "supernatural powers" of Pancasila today? Not in ceremonial speeches, but is he still a real guideline in the development of the nation?

For me, an engineer, the answer: Yes, Pancasila is still very powerful and continues to be relevant if we want to make it a work ideology, not just discourse ideology. And one of the most obvious ways for that is "Indonesian Reindustrialization".

Let's flash back for a moment. Indonesia once had an industrial golden period, especially in the 1980-1990s. The industry at that time contributed more than 30% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and absorbed millions of labor. But today, the conditions are different. The contribution of the industrial sector continues to decline, while our economy is increasingly dependent on imported goods.

At the same time, the world is also turbulent. There was a global supply chain disruption, geopolitical pressure, and transition to the green economy. So this condition causes massive layoff waves in the industrial and manufacturing sectors. Indonesia is not immune or even ready. This is proof that we do not have a solid and independent industrial foundation.

Then, what is the relationship with Pancasila?

everything. Pancasila is the direction of development. The fifth principle about social justice invites us to ensure that the results of industrialization are not only enjoyed by a handful of people in big cities. The third precept, Indonesian unity, means strengthening the industrial ecosystem in all regions. Even the fourth principle, the populist led by wisdom wisdom, can be translated as people's participation in economic development. Industrialization is not just an economic project.

This is a matter of sovereignty of a nation, there is not even a single country that is developed without a strong industry. Technocrats or professionals, to master technology, but also must have the character of leadership, national spirit and awareness of the importance of building national industrial sovereignty. Young engineers today are prospective leaders who carry the vision of Indonesia gold 2045. They must be given space, trust, and ecosystem to work.

But of course, to realize the power of Pancasila in reindustrialization, they cannot work alone. Synergy is needed: the government that dares to rearrange the direction of the national industry, the business world that invests in the productive sector, and people who respect the importance of innovation -based work. This synergy will be a strong foundation in building a nation that is competitive and dignified.

Ethics and Moral Responsibilities of Ministeriality is equally important. True engineers not only work based on technical calculations, but also uphold moral responsibility for the safety and interests of the public, environmental sustainability, and social justice. That's where the values of Pancasila live and work.
