PII Holds a Discussion with the Chief Editor Forum, Key-Industrialization Achieves Economic Growth 8%

The Institution of Engineers Indonesia (PII) seeks to support the government's target in increasing economic growth of 8%.

This was conveyed by General Chairperson PII Ilham Akbar Habibie in a discussion with the National Media Editor in Chief (Editorial) forum at the Central PII Secretariat Office, Jakarta, Tuesday (04/22/2025) night.

Ilham said Indonesia's economic growth was up to 8% not only ambitious targets, but also a necessity that needed collaborative work across sectors.

"Re-Industrialization as the main motor of the driving force for the national economy in the future. Without industrialization of 8% economic growth targets it is impossible to achieve," said Ilham Habibie.

PII confirms its commitment to take a strategic role in creating a strong industrial ecosystem, based on innovation and technology from the nation's children.

"National engineers must be the backbone in this re-industrialization process. We can no longer rely solely on the consumption sector or raw commodity. Indonesia needs a big leap based on technology and engineering," said Ilham Habibie.

At present, he said, PII is designing a series of domestic industrial strengthening programs, ranging from increasing the capacity of engineers, technology transfer, to partnerships with strategic industry players.

Re-Industrialization referred to not only involves the construction of factories and manufacturing, but also emphasizes the importance of the value chain and sustainability.

"We want to create an industry that is not only large, but also tough, independent, and sustainable. This is where Indonesian engineers must show their role," explained Ilham Habibie.

PII is also compiling a re-industrialized road map involving various priority industry clusters such as renewable energy, defense industry, intelligent logistics, digital technology and others.

Responding to the great initiative of PII, Chairman of the Indonesian Editor in Chief Forum, Retno Pinasti, stated his party's readiness to collaborate in the priority of the narrative of the National Industry Awakening.

According to the SCTV-Indosiar Chief Editor, the media has an important role in mobilizing public opinion, building information ecosystems that support industry, and elevate engineers in development.

Retno stressed that the Chief Editor Forum is ready to become a bridge of communication between engineers, the government, and the wider community.

Collaboration between PII and Chief Editor Forum is a strong signal that economic transformation to 8% growth rate is not just a dream. With the strengthening of the role of engineers and full support from the media, Indonesia has a solid foundation to enter a new era of industrialization based on science, technological independence, and national collaborative spirit.

For information, the Ketum PII meeting with the Chief Editor Forum was attended by Deputy Chairperson of PII Prof. Agus Taufik Mulyono (ATM), Secretary General of PII Teguh Haryono, Executive Director of PII Shanti Serad, as well as the Central PII management.
