
Ready to Establish Strategic Collaboration, PII Makassar Branch Meeting Makassar City Government
The Makassar Branch of the Institution of Engineers Indonesia (PII) held a visit to the Makassar City Hall to establish friendship with the Makassar City Government, South Sulawesi.
The activity is not only aimed at strengthening relations, but also becomes a constructive discussion event regarding the direction of Makassar City development in the future with the Mayor of Makassar, Munafri Arifuddin.

"The PII Management Structure This period was formed through a branch deliberation in October 2024, then inaugurated with several other branches in South Sulawesi, and had held a working meeting during the last Ramadan," explained Prof. Rustan in his statement received by media construction on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
He said that the work program of the Makassar Branch PII had been harmonized with the Makassar City Medium -Term Development Plan (RPJMD) and had been designed into a number of strategic programs to get direction from the Mayor of Makassar as the regional head as well as organizational advisers.
Makassar Mayor, Munafri Arifuddin, welcomed the existence of the Makassar Branch PII and emphasized the importance of the role of engineers in creating a strong, organized, and sustainable city planning.
"We discuss the opportunity for collaboration in strengthening infrastructure, urban planning, and the contribution of engineers in meeting the needs of the community," he said.
The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Makassar City Public Works Office, Zuhaelsi Zubir, ST., MT., And Head of Makassar City Brida, Nirwan Nisman Mungkasa, ST., M.AP., who discussed the city development plan and solutions to various challenges faced by Makassar City.
Other topics discussed include waste management, handling floods, and congestion - which are the focus of priority city development priorities.
The Makassar City Government also opened a cooperation space to work together with infrastructure experts from the Makassar Branch PII.
On that occasion, Dr. Ir. Fatriady MR, ST., MT., IPM., ASEAN.Eng from PII said that Makassar Branch PII is a professional organization consisting of academics, practitioners, and industry players who have great potential to support sustainable development in Makassar City.
"Brida is very appropriate to be a partner in the development of research and innovation with academics and researchers who are also members of PII, in order to produce solutions based on scientific studies that are ready to be implemented," he added.
The Makassar City Government also said that all domestic waste is currently being dumped to the Tamangapa Antang TPA, whose capacity is starting to be limited. Meanwhile, flood studies are still running. The government is developing the concept of a parking building in collaboration with the private sector, utilizing vacant land in the city center to create Makassar that is free of jammed, organized, and pedestrian -friendly.
The Mayor also expressed his desire to build beautiful public schools and have the best facilities for the future of the young generation of Makassar.
Closing the discussion, Munafri said that the completion of the Makassar City Spatial Plan (RTRW) was the main target of the 2025-2030 period.
"Hopefully the synergy between the government and the engineers with the spirit of professionalism and dedication can bring the city of Makassar into an innovative city that is superior in the future," he concluded.
