General Chair of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) 2021-2024, Dr. Ir. Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga, M.Eng. Sc, IPU, ACPE, APEC Eng, revealed that the implementation of the XXIII PII Congress 2024 had a big theme, namely Encouraging the Development of Technology Based on Local Wisdom.

"This theme reminds us to explore local potentials that can enrich and complete our scientific knowledge in the field of engineering," he said in his speech at the Royal Ambarukmo Hotel Yogyakarta, (05/12/2024).

He continued, the role of engineers in developing human civilization through contributions to the development of infrastructure and other fields. Also improving human welfare as mandated in the 2014 Engineering Law.

The role of engineers in development in Indonesia is very large in supporting infrastructure development in Indonesia, be it water resources, energy, roads, telecommunications, to the development of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN).

With the new government, in the future the role will be very necessary in realizing the Asta Cita of President Prabowo Subianto's government. One of them is the food self-sufficiency program, green economy, blue economy, strengthening human resource development and downstreaming to increase added value in the country.

He explained that PII as a forum for engineers had been established since 1952, and was also strengthened by Law No. 11 of 2014 concerning Engineering, with the principal task of carrying out reliable, professional engineering, in order to increase added value. “Increasing added value, increasing usability, increasing usability, realizing sustainable and environmentally sound development. "And the most important thing is that carrying out these duties must be based on professionalism, integrity, ethics, justice, harmony, usefulness, security, preservation and sustainability," he explained.

He also said that currently PII already has 90 thousand members spread throughout Indonesia. Also PII has 27 vocational bodies, 34 regions at the provincial level, 280 branches at the district/city level.

Apart from that, he continued, PII also has 9 international branches with opportunities in Singapore, Malaysia, Kuwait, America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Qatar and China.

In terms of increasing professionalism, PII has certified around 30 thousand professional PII members at three levels. Furthermore, to increase mobility, PII has signed a mutual recognition agreement with Australian engineers in June 2023 which aims to provide access to mobility for Indonesian engineers and vice versa in practicing engineering.

In an industrial context, PII established a permanent body called the Indonesia Solar Energy Research Center to support the development of solar energy technology in Indonesia.

PII Congress Results

Starting today and tomorrow, we will hold the XXIII PII Congress 2024 with one of the tasks being to determine the outline of the PII work program for the next 3 years.
