The XXIII Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) Congress 2024 was held at the Royal Ambarukmo Hotel, Yogyakarta 5-6 December 2024. The congress with the theme Encouraging the Development of Technology Based on Local Wisdom was opened directly by the Governor of DIY Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X and attended by the Head of the Archipelago Capital Authority (IKN), Basuki Hadimuljono.

Basuki Hadimuljono said that his presence here wanted to invite PII to play a bigger role in the development of IKN. The reason is, IKN development is not only physical development, but also non-physical. Not only engineering but also socio engineering is stronger, because it must also be followed by society. "There is a lot that PII can support in developing IKN," he said, Thursday (5/12/2024).

According to him, there are at least two timelines for IKN development. Preparing the 2025 ecosystem where the plan is to start moving some ASNs in stages. The office buildings will be ready this December, the Kemenko office has 16 towers and 47 towers for residential use. Then other ecosystems of tenants, restaurants, cafes, laundries, barbershops will be set up there. "I came here to invite PII to play a bigger role in IKN," he explained.

The General Chair of PII 2021-2024, Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga, encourages re-exploring local potential that can complement the scientific knowledge in the engineering field. According to him, engineers have a role in developing human civilization through contributing to development, both infrastructure and others in order to improve welfare.

Danis explained that in Law (UU) no. 11/2014 concerning Engineering, engineers have a role in various developments. Infrastructure, water resources, energy, transportation, telecommunications, and recently was involved in the design and construction of IKN. "With a new government in the future, the role of engineers is needed to realize Asta Cita," he said.

Especially related to self-sufficiency in food, energy, water, green economy, blue economy, infrastructure development, strengthening human resource development, downstreaming and industrialization to increase domestic added value. "This is the most important thing to increase added value, usability, usability results, realizing sustainable development."

He said that carrying out the engineer's mission and program was realized in the form of social service. Through efforts to improve the quality of technology, one of which is increasing technological development that relies on local potential and wisdom. "So operationally the role of engineers can be classified as mentor, facilitator, consultant, motivator and development advocate," he explained.

The XXIII PII Congress 2024 is a big event every 3 years. This time it was attended by 1,300 participants from all regions of Indonesia and overseas representatives.
