Your excellency, Mr. Presiden,
As the chairman of AFEO, PII is now holding the annual ASEAN engineering summit, namely CAFEO or Conference of ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organization, here in Jakarta.

The conference was just opened earlier this morning, November 11, 2013, in Jakarta Convention Center, by the Indonesian Minister of Public Works, bapak Ir. Joko Kirmanto.

The conference bring up an important subject of “The Implementation of Green Infrastructure in ASEAN Countries”, one of the most significant issue in ASEAN region, today. As you know, Indonesia has set a good pattern of its execution, by launching the environmentally-friendy Kelok Sembilan Bridge and Facility just a few days ago in West Sumatra.

Mr. Presiden,
All Ministers of Kabinet Indonesia Bersatu.
All fellow Engineers, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Allow me now to explain in brief, why we gather here at the palace, today.
We recognized how the government of Indonesia, headed by President Yudhoyono, put a concentrated effort to the nation’s development of engineering, science, and technology.
Evidences are vast and vary, that innovation and implementation of new designs and models has introduced, to the benefits of the people. They are not necessarily rocket-science creations, but surely bring suitable solution to the problems.
Internationally, we also recognize the President’s role in bringing Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region in the world’s map.

President Yudhoyono has been guiding Indonesia, as the representation of the region, raise to the third fastest growing economy in the G20 countries. We are all, also witnessing how Indonesia is now considered as one of the most influential nation to the world, by recording a steady six-percent plus GDP growth, during the nine-years administration of President Yudhoyono.

As a citizen of southeast Asia, we proud to have Bapak Dr. Yudhoyono as one of our prominent leader and a central figure, in Asia and in the world.

As engineers, we also thankful for the President’s significant encouragement on engineering, science, and technology education development.

In the last few years, we see how students from Indonesia always score great results in international science and math olympics. Young Indonesian scientists and innovators won prestigious awards in world competitions. Moreover, many Indonesian is now holding important position like Main Engineers in the world’s top corporations in technology-based industries.

For all of the considerations mentioned, we – the ten members of ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations, has agreed upon the highest accolade to be conferred to that accomplishment. The decision itself has been made during the AFEO mid-year meeting in Yangon, Myanmar, on May 2013, about six months ago.

AFEO is grateful to present the HONORARY PATRON MEDAL awarded to the President of Indonesia Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
